What is the 「Desert Forest」
Forests are classified as either rainforest or temperate forest. Most rainforests grow in the tropical or subtropical rainfall areas, while the temperate forests cover the few temperate regions such as western Canada. Another forest called Desertforest. There is no forest located in or around the desert so far. as people know, there is no tree or even grass which can survive in drought (less than 10 mm of rain per year), low humidity (20% or less), and extreme range of temperature (more than 70 degree in one day).

森林可以分為生長在熱帶或亞熱帶地區的熱帶雨林和溫帶森林兩種，雨林主要分布在亞馬遜河、婆羅洲和剛果，而溫帶森林只剩下加拿大西部一帶，而極端乾旱的沙漠地區，所生長的森林，稱為「荒漠森林」‧

Why the forest disappeared
The world’s forests are shrinking faster and faster. For example, not too many years ago, most of Australia was covered by rainforest. But now, more than 75% of the continent’s rainforest has disappeared. Other regions face the same problems. Large areas of forest are cleared for timber and agriculture. When the forest disappears, the ecosystems they sustain, including human beings, are either lost or badly damaged. Once the forests disappear, it is almost impossible to be regenerated. At worst impossible if desertification is allowed to set in.

The “Combat Desertification and Drought team” of the UN has highlighted desertification as one of the world’s greatest environmental challenges. It puts at risk the health and well-being of 1.2 billion people in more than 100 countries. Two thirds of the poor live in the dry lands. Desertification seriously threatens about half of all farms’ households and livelihoods. Together they seriously threaten our ability to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015, the UNs officer stated.
根據聯合國的統計，百分之四十一的土地，已經荒漠化，每年損失超過420億美金，聯合國抗荒漠化組織更指出，超過一百個國家，十二億的人口的健康和生存，受到土地荒漠化的威脅，而三分之二的窮人，是生活在乾旱的土地上，土地荒漠化，已經嚴重威脅半數農民的生活和生存了，一位聯合國的官員提出警訊，荒漠化問題已經威脅「千禧願望」的達成‧

Sand storms, which originate in desert areas, threaten the lives of people living around the desertified land. They also affect the heath and livelihood of people far away, such as Beijing, Japan, U.S., Taipei etc. Desertforest can play a major role in reducing and controlling sand storms.

2. Reducing the Greenhouse effects.
The greenhouse phenomena have caused unpredictable weather patterns and climate change, leading to temperature increase and rainfall decrease. Growing the desert forest will help to reduce the CO2 and cool the desert temperatures by providing shade.
